Implants / Complete Mouth Implant Reconstruction

Implants / Complete Mouth Implant Reconstruction in The Woodlands, TX

Overview
Dental implants are essentially artificial tooth roots that hold a bridge or a replacement tooth in place.  The implant is anchored into the jaw and is permanent and stable.  Implants are becoming an increasingly more popular solution to tooth loss.  They look and feel just like natural teeth.

What is the procedure?
First, Dr. Stewart will develop a personalized treatment plan.  You must be a good candidate with proper bone structure and healthy gums in order for the implant to stay in place.  Patients with chronic problems like clenching, grinding, or systemic diseases like diabetes might not have a good success rate with dental implants.
During the surgery, the tooth root implant is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth.  The jawbone will naturally heal around the implant, securing it in place.  This healing can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks.
When the implant is thoroughly bonded to the jaw, Dr. Stewart will attach a connector post (abutment) to the post, which will hold the new tooth.  Your new tooth (or teeth) will be made specially from a model of your bite and match the color of your natural teeth.  The replacement tooth (crown) will be attached to the abutment.

How do I care for implants?
Poor oral hygiene is a big reason why some implants fail. It is important to floss and brush around the fixtures at least twice a day. The doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for your new implants. Additional cleanings of up to four times per year may be necessary to ensure that you retain healthy gums.
